Mideast envoys seeks Israeli-Palestinian talks (AP)

WASHINGTON ? International Mideast mediators have proposed a meeting between Israel and the Palestinians this month to relaunch stalled peace talks.

The State Department says officials from the U.S., the U.N., the European Union and Russia want both sides to meet in Jordan on Oct. 23.

That's exactly one month after those mediators set a 30-day deadline for the Israelis and Palestinians to hold preliminary talks aimed at resurrecting negotiations with an eye toward reaching a peace deal by the end of 2012.

Department spokesman Victoria Nuland says the international mediators are "very hopeful" that the two sides would agree to the meeting.
