Goodges Greenhouse and crafts ready for the holidays | Morrow ...

By Tay?lor?Kaser -

After retire?ment, Joyce and John Goodge of Marengo had no inten?tion of just sit?ting at home watch?ing the clock tick. Nigel a retired car?pen?ter, and Joyce, a retired teacher at High?land, began pur?su?ing their hob?bies and turn?ing them into a business.

John explained that they?ve always had lots of extra fruits and veg?eta?bles from their gar?den, and usu?ally just gave them away to friends and fam?ily. But two years ago, they decided to expand their gar?den?ing and sell their produce.

Last sum?mer, they sold fresh pro?duce at the Mt. Gilead Farm?ers Mar?ket on Sat?ur?days. Being at the mar?ket on Sat?ur?days gave them a great sense of com?mu?nity, see?ing fel?low ven?dors and cus?tomers regularly.

This spring the green?house will be offer?ing veg?eta?bles, flow?ers, and herbs. Cus?tomers can also put in requests for what they?d like grown, and Goodges will be happy to try to grow it for?you.

Next to their green?house, Joyce sells her home?made crafts and can?dles. She also makes quilts, scarves, hats, and school apparel with school names and emblems.

The store is open 9 a.m? 6 p.m Sat?ur?day and Sun?day. After Decem?ber 21 they will also be open dur?ing the week 10 a.m? 6 p.m. Visit their shop at 2467 County Road?170.
