23 cited for underage drinking in Skokie house-party bust ? Skokie ...

Post a story

Twenty-three people are scheduled for an August court date after they were cited for underage drinking early Sunday following a party in the 9200 block of Forestview Road in Skokie, authorities said this week.

Officers on patrol questioned two underage people as they were walking on Forestview Road at about 1 a.m. Sunday, police said. They said the officers quickly determined that the two had been drinking at a party in the basement of a single family home on the street and went to investigate.

The officers interrupted a large party taking place in the basement of the home, and discovered numerous people between the ages of 18 and 20 had been drinking or were in possession of alcohol, said police. They said 23 people were cited for being present at a gathering where alcohol was being consumed by minors. The daughter of the homeowner, Rachel Batman, 21, was cited for keeping a disorderly house. Police also said the girl?s parents were out of town at the time of the party, but were notified about the incident.

?We take alcohol related crimes very seriously in order to prevent tragedies from occurring,? officer Tammy Jacobsen said Tuesday. ?People being intoxicated and not using full clear thinking can result in dire consequences, whether that be driving, riding a bicycle or walking.?

All those cited are scheduled for a August 22 hearing at the Skokie courthouse.
