Allstar Race Truck Driver on the Road to NASCAR Seeks Sponsorship; Experiences Racial Barriers Along the Way

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) December 20, 2006 -

As a young, promising driver in the sport of auto racing, Mark C. Lowrey, an African-American, is attempting to make the transition from NASCAR?s ?minor leagues? to the major cup races. His current goal is to race in the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX ,Nascar Busch Racing Series that he is confident will catapult him on his way to realizing his ultimate goal of being the first African-American driver to win a major NASCAR Nextel Cup.

Mark attained the title of Rookie-of-the-Year in 2003 and placed highly in several AllStar Race Truck Series, including a first-place finish in ARTS Truck #1 division on March 27, 2004 at the Waterford Speedbowl and a first-place finish in the ARTS Truck #1 division on May 15, 2004 at the Canaan Fair Speedway, Canaan, NH.

Despite this much-touted success he has been unable to make the transition to the major Cup races because of a lack of sponsorship, a challenge that has proven difficult because of his ethnicity. In a sport dominated by Caucasians, few sponsors are looking to back an African-American driver.

To overcome this challenge of attaining sponsorship, he has since retained the services of JK Racing Inc, a firm representing minority figures in sports. Lowrey takes it all in stride, adding that he just wants the chance to prove himself.

?I got into it at a young age and fell in love with it!? he said. ?I have been working for this moment my whole life. I just need the chance.?

Currently he works as an instructor at the Buck Baker Racing School and as a Senior Level Field Service Engineer for SeaChange International, a supplier of on demand movies in New York. In his free time, he has acquired hundreds of laps at the following tracks: Atlanta Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Darlington, Lowe?s Motor Speedway and North Carolina Motor Speedway.

He?s hoping to attain sponsorship by December 2006 to be able to race in Daytona with a goal of attaining at least one major sponsor and numerous smaller ones. Anyone interested in providing a sponsorship should contact JK Racing Inc. Felipe Gonzalez at 704 ? 606 ? 4675 or J.C. at 704 ? 777 ? 8101.

?I have been on the outside looking in on racing since I was four years old,? Lowrey adds. ?Our family?s next-door neighbor, Ron Imfeld, ran the number four Purple modified. I found myself at a quarter-mile oval called Plainville Stadium every week watching him and everybody else?s heroes fight, and I do mean fight for victory, week after week. From that point on, I knew what racing meant to me and that one day, somehow, some way, I would be out there like the Carl Bugs Stevens and the Reggie Ruggieros of the day.?
