Apple may be looking to GlobalFoundries to make chips for Apple products.

According to a report by CNET, a computer-industry website, Apple may be looking for a "backup plan" to supplement their current supplier, Samsung.

Such a deal would give Apple the same kind of control over design and manufacturing that Intel has over its chips, the report said.

The report has generated discussion in several computer chip industry publications.
